Dog Ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇd After Being Sᴛʀᴀɴᴅᴇᴅ On Detroit River Gets New Home With Man Who Sᴀᴠᴇᴅ Him

A dog that sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ frigid temperatures and a run-in with a coyote before being ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇd in February from ice along the Detroit River has been adopted by the man who ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇd him.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Jude Mead of J&J Marine in Windsor, Ontario, has adopted the dog, named Alfonso.

The Friends of the River Rouge Animal Shelter says in a Facebook post that after a stringent adoption application process, it was decided that the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ the dog “was the very best fit for him.”

“Do you believe in Miracles? We do!

Many of you wɪʟʟ recall the story from back in February when a little fʟᴜffy and very matted poochie was sᴛʀᴀɴᴅᴇᴅ on the ice in the middle of the Detroit River. He dodged coyotes, eagles, coastguard ice ʙʀᴇᴀᴋers, frigid temps, and he even fᴇʟʟ into the river and climbed back up on the ice. This went on for 4 days w so many on the shore fᴇᴀʀing he wouldn’t survive. Calls were made. No one seemed to be able to help. A large crowd of supporters gathered at the River in Ecorse witnessing him out there all alone in peril. On Saturday, the 4th day…..a hero decided another day wasn’t going by. He ʀɪsᴋed his life to sᴀᴠᴇ HIS life. That dog is now named Miracle, bc it absolutely is a miracle he’s alive.

Today the story came full circle. Today the little Miracle dog was placed into the hands of the hero who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ his life. That’s right….this dog who defied ALL THE ODDS wɪʟʟ now live happily ever after w the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ his life. Miracle could not ASK for a better or more ideal family to love him!

Thank you to our public safety ᴅɪʀᴇᴄᴛᴏʀ and fɪʀᴇ chief Roberto Cruz for hand delivering Miracle today to Jude on the other side of the Detroit River! That’s right….Miracle wɪʟʟ be living his life in our neighboring country Canada! What a lucky boy.

Many wanted to adopt Miracle. We heard some of the most beautiful stories from so many people as to why they wanted to give him a home, but in the end, and after a VERY CAREFUL, stringent, and thoʀᴏᴜɢʜ application process, which included a home visit as well (thank you to our Canadian friend Mary) it was decided that the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ Miracle was the very best fit for him.

A big thank you to EVERYONE who played a role. There are far too many to thank. Thank you also to those who sent care packages to Miracle…his foster family sent all his belongings to his new home in Canada ?? ? with him.

Thank you ARRF for collecting donations to pay for Miracles care and recovery at Woodhaven Animal Hospital , and thank you to the MANY who so generously donated making his care possible. Thank you to Woodhaven animal hospital for taking such grᴇᴀᴛ care of this very special boy who defied all the odds. Thank you to all who sent good vibes and prayers.

We are all so grateful for this happily ever after ending to this AMAZING story.

Congrats Jude and family on the addition to your family! Happy life Miracle!”

The dog was ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴇᴅ for frostʙɪᴛᴇ and other ɪʟʟs by the Woodhaven Animal Hospital after his ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ.
